Energy business in Qatar
To provide advise, opinion and services in handling litigation cases including representing the firm, before courts and disputes resolution tribunals and lead Counsels in providing legal opinion required in running the business and also to provide support services as specified in Internal Policy or assigned by the General Counsel, in accordance with the firm's policies and applicable laws and regulations.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT ABILITIES
Draft legal opinions from a litigation perspective on the legality of legal issues raised in relation to the laws of the State of Qatar.
Lead in the preparation and/or review from a litigation perspective various agreements and contracts to ensure compliance with legal and commercial principles of the State of Qatar to best protect the firm.
Represent the firm according to the law of practising law No. (23) of the year 2006 - before the courts and arbitration tribunals, different government departments and other legal bodies and manage dispute resolution, negotiation and settlement of claims by drafting of legal briefs/Memorandums of defence and submissions.
Oversee and lead the drafting of memoranda and articles of association and follow -up on incorporation procedures
Prepare and draft laws, decrees and regulations relevant to the firm operations or relating to the oil & gas activities in the State of Qatar for review by Management and H.E. the Minister of Energy and Industry.
Lead and coordinate participation in and/or actively participate as a member of, internal investigations committees, ad-hoc and permanent committees and in the firm's meetings involving multi-disciplinary issues, by providing from a litigation perspective legal opinion/advice.
Assist in framing issues and in obtaining effective and timely management review and decisions and often participate in the negotiation for major projects and claims, in order to safeguard the firm's interests and ensure compliance with the law.
Monitor the work of external counsel on specialized matters in order to safeguard the firm's interests and ensure the compliance with the law.
Supervise and Coach Counsel and Qatari Developees to ensure the optimal utilisation of resources and for the purpose of executing Qatari Developees' development plan.
Receives assignments from Associate General Counsel and/or the General Counsel and exercises good judgement and degree of independence in day to day work.
Has freedom to interpret and make decisions on handed matters
The Successful Applicant
Bachelors of Law (LLB) or equivalent from recognized Arabic University, preferably master degree of law.
Eligible to practice law in Qatar or any similar jurisdiction.
Native Arabic speaker with very good command of English
Excellent legal drafting and writing skills.
At least 12 years of general legal practice including most of the practice areas in the Principal Account abilities listed above.
Familiar with Qatari laws or any similar jurisdiction.
Prior knowledge of boards and general assemblies secretariat activities.
Must be proficient in using Microsoft Word.
Experience in the Oil and Gas industry being highly advantageous.
