About Our Client

EPH is a leading European energy group with some 40 companies operating in the areas of coal extraction, electricity and heat production from conventional to renewable sources. The Group has recently acquired the coal fired power station based in Northumberland with the mandate to convert the plant to a biomass fuel.

The project has secured Government support via CFD, receiving EU commission approval in November 2015. The business has now embarked upon a significant capital project in excess of £250M, requiring the coordination of several sub projects, both on and off site. Over the course of two years the project will move from early works to full plant commissioning and ultimate hand over of the converted equipment to the operational teams. As a result there is an immediate need to appoint a Project Director to oversee this high profile project.

Job Description

Reporting to the power station MD, the key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the delivery of this key project through the 2 year lifecycle
  • Ensuring the project milestones are safely met to quality, programme and budget
  • Managing all key contractors to ensure safe delivery without compromising the highest quality standards of work, across the whole project
  • Implementing robust business processes to ensure all sub projects are fully integrated and interface points are correctly aligned
  • Providing strong leadership to the project team
  • Managing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong health, safety and environmental leadership, to secure senior management and working level commitment to delivering world class performance.

The Successful Applicant

Prospective candidates will have a construction or engineering related degree, professional registration and a demonstrable track record of success managing significant projects in power generation, petrochemical or heavy engineering. Experience of managing the delivery of complex projects without an EPC wrap resulting in multiple contractors and interface points, is essential.

You will have excellent technical skills that can demonstrably be leveraged in this new role, to clearly deliver exceptional project management results. Of equal importance are strong leadership skills and an acute commercial acumen to deliver all aspect of this project. In addition, you will have outstanding interpersonal skills that will facilitate strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, to build a team capable of delivering success.
