The Controller is responsible for managing the overall accounting, and payroll operation of the university. This includes managing internal controls to mitigate risk; ensuring that the official accounting records of the University are accurate; safeguarding the assets of the University to minimize risk of financial to loss; and developing and maintaining robust costing systems and reporting tools to provide high-quality financial information
• Monitors the proper and efficient use of University Funds, including the operating budget, one-time and ongoing funding commitments, capital projects, gifts, endowments and other types of funds.
• Maintains appropriate fiscal policies, procedures and accounting practices that ensure compliance with applicable laws, as well as university rules and regulations.
• Prepares the University's Annual Financial Report and other reports for internal control of funds throughout the University.
• Collaborates with the Manager of Budget Management as well as other key people to maximize the impact and effectiveness of financial controls and the fiscal well-being of the University.
• Promotes a customer-oriented service attitude and ensures the efficient attitude and ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Controller's function through best -practice business processes and appropriate technologies.
• Makes recommendation to senior management on areas of responsibility, including accounting practices, internal controls and reporting of financial results.
• Acts as the primary liaison with external auditors.
• Manages direct reports to perform their assigned tasks and achieve their performance objectives, including budgetary control, through ongoing feedback, coaching and facilitation.
Who we're looking for
Key competencies
• Ability to review, analyze and evaluate financial and operational data.
• Skills in implementing continuous quality improvement techniques.
• Knowledge of financial accounting and auditing principles and internal control concepts.
• Knowledge of enterprise application systems and the application of accounting and financial information system technology .
• Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills. 1st class presentation skills are a must.
• Ability to work closely and effectively with diverse group of faculty, staff, senior administrator and external stakeholders and constituencies.
•Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or business administration. A post Graduate qualification is preferred.
• Recognized accountancy qualification e.g CPA, CMA, CA, ACMA.
• Fifteen or more years of financial management experience.
• AT least five years leadership experience is required.
