Reporting to the General Counsel and Secretary of the University, key responsibilities will include:
• Conducting research and providing advice to University management and organizations on legal matters involving all departments including, but not limited to, University Affairs, the Endowment, Intellectual Property, Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology and the Office of the Provost - specifically on personnel or student concerns and the University's policies and procedures.
• Assisting the General Counsel and Secretary of the University regarding its policies, programs, practices, and activities which are affected by legal considerations.
• Ensuring that research grants and employment agreements are administered in accordance with their terms and conditions.
• Ensuring the University's fund raising activities are conducted in an open and transparent manner and in accordance with applicable laws.
• Assisting principal administrators or, upon request, their staffs, to understand the legal causes and effects of their administrative actions and providing information about legal developments of interest to particular administrators.
• Performing contract functional reviews and providing support to affiliated companies of the University.
• The Associate General Counsel will also lead and manage projects and small teams as required
Who we're looking for
The ideal candidate will be a qualified Lawyer with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience practicing in a broad range of legal areas within a complex organizational structure, preferably in a higher education or research-based environment. Strong interpersonally and with effective leadership skills, this individual will have the ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly with little or no supervision and with superior attention to detail.
Knowledge of Sharia law and Middle East culture is desirable but not essential
