Job Description

  • Legal Advice and Counsel: Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on matters involving international law. Analyze complex legal issues, research relevant laws and regulations, and offer solutions and strategies to address client's needs and objectives.
  • International Business Transactions: Assist clients in negotiating and structuring international business agreements, such as contracts, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and licensing agreements. Conduct due diligence, assess legal risks, and ensure compliance with international laws and regulations.
  • International Trade and Regulatory Compliance: Advise clients on international trade regulations, export/import laws, customs compliance, sanctions, and trade agreements. Assist in developing strategies for cross-border trade and compliance with international trade regulations.
  • Dispute Resolution and Litigation: Represent clients in international disputes, including arbitration, mediation, and litigation. Prepare legal documents, conduct legal research, present arguments, and negotiate settlements to protect client's interests in international legal proceedings.
  • International Human Rights and Advocacy: Address issues related to international human rights, humanitarian law, and advocacy. Provide guidance on human rights compliance, contribute to policy development, and engage in advocacy efforts to protect and promote human rights globally.
  • Cross-border Compliance and Risk Management: Assist clients in understanding and complying with international legal and regulatory requirements. Develop compliance programs, conduct risk assessments, and provide training to ensure adherence to international laws and standards.
  • International Legal Research and Analysis: Stay updated on developments in international law, treaties, conventions, and legal precedents. Conduct legal research and analysis to support client's cases, prepare legal opinions, and contribute to legal publications or presentations.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understand their needs and objectives, and provide timely and effective legal advice. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address client's legal requirements

The Successful Applicant

  • Specialization or advanced studies in international law, such as a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law or International Legal Practice, is highly beneficial.
  • 15 years of experience
  • Preferred: Maritime law or international admiralty law specialist
  • Having worked for an International organization such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations, or a law firm dealing with international maritime law
  • Proven experience in international law practice, preferably in a law firm, corporate legal department, or international organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of international legal frameworks, treaties, conventions, and regulations relevant to the practice area(s), such as international trade law, international business law, international human rights law, or international dispute resolution.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills to navigate complex international legal issues and provide effective legal solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively articulate legal arguments, draft legal documents, and communicate with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders from diverse cultural and legal backgrounds.
  • Negotiation and advocacy skills to represent client's interests in international legal proceedings and negotiations.
  • Cross-cultural competence and sensitivity to work effectively with clients and stakeholders from different cultural and legal contexts.
