The successful candidate will be responsible for the reliable, safe, and efficient real-time operation, ensuring compliance with grid codes, coordination with field operations, managing emergency events, maintaining system stability, and supporting operation planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Description

  • Monitor and control the electrical power transmission system via SCADA/EMS during normal and abnormal conditions
  • Ensure voltage, frequency, reactive power, and power flow are maintained within acceptable limits in accordance with Saudi Arabian Grid Code and relevant standards
  • Ensure power system analysis of electricity flows and in real time, commission and switch up to 380kV.
  • Demonstrate understanding principles of real and reactive power flow, and voltage.
  • Respond to system disturbances, faults, and emergencies, performing fault diagnosis and executing remedial measures quickly and accurately
  • Coordinate switching operations, outages, and maintenance work with field crews ensuring safety and reliability
  • Develop, review, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency procedures, operational policies, and grid code compliance guidelines
  • Conduct operational forecasting, load / demand analysis, contingency planning, and reliability/ stability studies (steady state, dynamic, transient, voltage/frequency stability)
  • Prepare and present system operation reports, logs, event summaries, and recommendations for improvement / mitigation
  • Well understand of generation unit components, transmission, regulatory guidance and requirements.
  • To control, monitor, and analyse the transmission network in real-time, making crucial decisions to ensure grid security and stability.
  • Participate in training, mentoring of junior operators, and continuous improvement programs (e.g. system reliability, responsiveness, automation, performance KPIs)
  • Deeper understanding of system strengths, weaknesses, and long-term rationale for operating limits
  • Managing the unique challenges associated with high penetration of intermittent resources (wind, solar) and inverter-based resources.
  • Conduct regular drills to assess emergency procedures.
  • Ensure all operational practices align with the latest grid code revisions
  • Coordinate the commissioning activities and operational data.
  • Ensure the provision of appropriate supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) displays and Power System Simulator.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Transmission Engineer - Control Room Engineer/Consultant should have:

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).

* Minimum 10-12 years of experience in power system operations, transmission / distribution network operation,

* Prior experience as a Shift Supervisor or Team Lead in a control center environment.

* Strong knowledge of Saudi Arabian Grid Code, operating standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.

* Experience with large, interconnected grids, transmission at high voltage (e.g. 132kV, 230kV, 380kV, etc.)

* Exposure to power electronics, renewable energy integration (solar, wind, battery storage), and modern grid technologies (FACTS, HVDC, etc.)

* Proficiency with SCADA/EMS systems for real-time monitoring and control

* Deep understanding of power system fundamentals: load flow, power / reactive power balancing, voltage regulation, frequency control, protection systems, contingency analysis, stability (static, dynamic)

* Experience with fault diagnostics, switching operations, coordinating with field teams under normal and emergency conditions

* Ability to work rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays) and remain calm under pressure

* Deep understanding of the energy market and interchange scheduling.

* Excellent verbal and written communication. Skills in English; Arabic proficiency preferred.
