What led you to recruitment from your background in Estimating?

You could say I fell into recruitment. I approached the Managing Director of Micheal Page, MEA initially as an introduction to jobs in Property & Construction and I was approached by HR asking if I would consider applying for a job as a consultant with Michael Page.

Why did you join PageGroup?

After my first interview, I knew Michael Page was an environment I wanted to work in and a team I wanted to join.
The Directors and Managers were positive, successful and extremely driven which made my choice an easy one to make.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Talking to new people every day and helping them on their job search. It’s always rewarding representing a candidate, highlighting their strengths and helping them fine tune their career direction.

What skills from your background in Estimating helped with your transition into recruitment?

Industry and construction knowledge. Working for a design & build contractor in Melbourne gave me an insight into the different roles and responsibilities in property and construction. Coming from a site-based role, I was also able to pick up construction principles and learnt how to speak the lingo with clients and candidates.

What advice would you give someone with an Estimating background who wanted a job in recruitment?

Learn as much about the region and market as you possibly can. Absorb newspaper articles, Linked In and any Property and Construction project knowledge you can be exposed to. Industry knowledge is key in this role and keeping up with changes in the market is easier if you do your homework!
