Q. Why did you join PageGroup?

After a 7-year career within the hospitality sector and a lot of thought, I decided to transition into recruitment. PageGroup is the world’s leading recruitment company, not only because of its capabilities in this field but also because of its purpose of ‘changing lives’ and its core values. Its values are what differentiate it from industry competitors, and the reason I joined Michael Page. We truly are in this business of changing people's lives through creating opportunity to reach potential.

Q. Tell us about your transition from hospitality into recruitment and how it’s been working at PageGroup so far.

I am extremely happy with my decision to move from hospitality to recruitment, and particularly about working at PageGroup. One of the things that I like about working here is the meritocratic and teamwork culture, as we are encouraged to perform at our best, whilst also collaborating with our peers and receiving recognition for our hard work.

Q. What is most rewarding about your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my role is supporting people in developing their careers and in some cases, potentially even overcoming unemployment. I derive the greatest satisfaction when I receive an appreciative message from a candidate whom I’ve helped with securing a new career opportunity.

Q. What skills from your hospitality career have helped in your current role as a recruiter?

I believe that the soft skills gained during my hospitality career have tremendously helped me with my current role, for e.g., being people oriented, striving to go the extra mile for our clients, candidates or colleagues and putting in additional effort to get to know them on a professional and personal level.

Q. What advice would you give someone with a hospitality background who is contemplating a career in recruitment?

My advice is that you should put a great deal of thought when deciding on a career change as it requires a high degree of adaptability. If you are the type of person who truly wishes to make a difference in another person's life, who is driven and self-motivated to perform at the best level, and at the same time, you are resilient when things don't go as planned, then a career in recruitment is something that I would recommend!
